West Ham 2-2 Liverpool: Wasteful Reds see title hopes fade further after draw

Liverpool's hopes of winning the Premier League title have been effectively dashed after a 2-2 draw against West Ham United at the London Stadium. This result also highlights the fact that West Ham has only lost two of their previous 19 home games.
Liverpool's defeat to Everton in the midweek Merseyside derby was a significant setback for their realistic chances of winning the Premier League. Additionally, the frustration among supporters towards manager David Moyes and the team's exit from the UEFA Europa League have not helped the mood at West Ham.
Consequently, the opening period of the match at the London Stadium lacked intensity as both teams struggled to assert themselves. Despite dominating possession, Liverpool failed to trouble West Ham's goalkeeper, Alphonse Areola, apart from Luis Diaz's effort that hit the post.
On the other hand, West Ham also struggled to create dangerous opportunities in the first half. However, they managed to go into halftime with a lead.
Just before the break, Jarrod Bowen's deflected shot was saved by Alisson Becker, but he couldn't prevent the England international from scoring a header off Mohamed Kudus' cross following a short corner.
This goal not only put West Ham in front but also allowed Bowen to equal Paolo Di Canio's record for the most goals scored by a West Ham player in a single Premier League campaign. Bowen's 16th goal of the season matched Di Canio's tally from the 1999/2000 season.
After the halftime whistle blew, Jürgen Klopp swiftly made his way down the tunnel, a familiar sight during his lengthy tenure in England. His ability to instill a sense of urgency in his players was evident, as they quickly equalized within five minutes of the restart. Surprisingly, it was Andrew Robertson who found the back of the net, capitalizing on Diaz's pass.
The visiting team continued to apply pressure, and midway through the second half, they seized the lead. The goal itself was rather fortunate, as Cody Gakpo's attempt deflected off Angelo Ogbonna and Tomas Soucek before finding its way into the bottom corner.
Liverpool had several opportunities to secure a comfortable lead. Diaz's toe-poke was saved after being put through, and Areola also denied Alexis MacAllister from close range. However, these crucial saves proved pivotal, as West Ham managed to equalize soon after.
Michail Antonio, a constant thorn in the side of many opponents, headed the ball into the net from Bowen's cross, leaving Alisson rooted to the spot. Ultimately, neither team could find a winning goal, resulting in both sides settling for a point.
This outcome does little to enhance Liverpool's chances of catching up to league-leaders Arsenal, who are now two points ahead with a game in hand. With just three matches remaining, Liverpool faces an uphill battle to close the gap, especially considering the formidable presence of Manchester City.
On the other hand, West Ham remains in eighth place, and their aspirations of securing European football have suffered a setback as the competition for the top seven spots intensifies.
