West Ham 4-2 Brentford: Bowen bags first career hat-trick as Hammers end poor run of form

West Ham United, led by the impressive performance of Jarrod Bowen, secured a much-needed victory after going winless for eight matches in 2024. The team dominated with a 4-2 win over London rivals Brentford, pushing Brentford deeper into trouble at the bottom of the Premier League table.

After a turbulent couple of weeks for West Ham, talisman Bowen's explosive start came at the perfect moment for manager David Moyes, who was under pressure.

The England international scored two quick goals for the home team, opening the scoring with a powerful shot from inside the penalty area.

West Ham, looking rejuvenated, continued to press Brentford, and Bowen added another goal shortly after, this time finishing off a precise pass from Vladimír Coufal.

Despite their strong start, West Ham's lead was cut to just one goal by Brentford midway through the first half, much to Moyes' frustration.

Defensive errors led to Brentford's goals, with Keane Lewis-Potter taking advantage of a mistake to set up Neal Maupay for a clinical finish.

As the first half ended, West Ham appeared uneasy, and the beginning of the second half seemed to offer Brentford a chance to get back into the game.

However, Bowen completed his hat-trick with a header from Mohammed Kudus' cross, sealing the victory for West Ham.

Although Bowen stood out, the best goal of the match came from Emerson Palmieri, who scored a stunning long-range strike to give West Ham a comfortable lead.

Brentford managed to score a late goal through Yoane Wissa, but two excellent saves from Alphonse Areola in stoppage time secured the win for West Ham, ending their poor start to the year on a positive note.

The loss for Brentford, combined with the announcement that Everton had regained four points following their 10-point deduction, resulted in a bleak Monday for the Bees. They currently find themselves just five points above the relegation zone.
