West Indies clinch historic Test victory in Pakistan, level series 1-1

The West Indies ended a 33-year drought with a stunning 120-run win over Pakistan in the second Test in Multan on Monday, drawing the two-match series 1-1. This marks their first Test victory in Pakistan since 1990.

Chasing 178 for victory, Pakistan resumed the final day at 76-4 but quickly lost Saud Shakeel (13) and Kashif Ali (1) to Kevin Sinclair and Jomel Warrican. The hosts found themselves in deeper trouble when Mohammad Rizwan, who scored 25 off 62 balls, fell to Warrican in the 42nd over.

Warrican, the star of the match, delivered a brilliant spell, taking five wickets in the second innings. With Pakistan reduced to 122-8, Gudakesh Motie dismissed Noman Ali before Warrican struck again to remove Sajid Khan, sealing the victory for the visitors.

"Just the variation of pace and hitting the same length over and over," Warrican said after being named Player of the Match and Player of the Series. "Consistency is the key to everything I do."

The first Test in Multan saw Pakistan secure a convincing 127-run win, but the West Indies bounced back in style to claim the second Test. Captain Kraigg Brathwaite praised his team’s efforts, highlighting the significance of the victory:

"We haven't played in Pakistan for a number of years, but we haven't won here in a while, so to come here and do it as a young group is incredible," Brathwaite said.

Reflecting on the challenging conditions, he added: "On this pitch, there's a ball with your name on it around the corner. We did that with the bat in the second innings, and it was good to see. It was a good experience. When you get on better pitches, you can have a similar mindset, and it will help you in the long run."

This historic win not only showcased the West Indies’ resilience but also provided invaluable experience for their young squad. With Jomel Warrican leading the charge, the visitors’ performance in Multan will be remembered as a turning point for their Test cricket journey.
