Wimbledon 2025 Final: Jannik Sinner stuns Djokovic to set up epic showdown with Alcaraz

World No. 1 Jannik Sinner produced a clinical display of power and precision to dismantle seven-time Wimbledon champion Novak Djokovic in straight sets 6-3, 6-3, 6-4, securing his first-ever Wimbledon final and booking a rematch with defending champion Carlos Alcaraz.
The highly-anticipated Wimbledon 2025 final, set for Sunday, will be a repeat of last month’s unforgettable French Open final that saw Alcaraz edge Sinner in a marathon five-set thriller.
But this time, it’s on grass and the Italian is hungry for revenge.
Sinner silences Centre Court, ends Djokovic’s reign
Facing a legend with 24 Grand Slam titles and a flawless Wimbledon final record since 2017, Jannik Sinner wasn’t fazed. The 23-year-old Italian was relentless from start to finish, exploiting a physically struggling Djokovic and landing clean, aggressive shots that gave the Serb little room to breathe.
Djokovic, still nursing a thigh issue from his quarterfinal win over Flavio Cobolli, looked short of his usual movement and intensity. After dropping the first two sets in under 80 minutes, he took a medical timeout. But the writing was already on the wall. Sinner wrapped up the win in under two hours, making it his first victory over Djokovic on grass after defeats in their 2022 and 2023 Wimbledon meetings.
“It’s hard to believe I’m in the final here,” Sinner said, beaming. “Five years ago, I really struggled on grass. But I’ve worked so hard. This moment shows I’m evolving as a complete player.”
The win also breaks Djokovic’s run of reaching the final in every Wimbledon edition since 2017. Remarkably, it’s his first semi-final loss at Wimbledon in over a decade, since Roger Federer defeated him in 2012.
Sinner vs. Alcaraz
With Sinner now through, the Wimbledon 2025 men’s final becomes a showdown between the ATP’s top two stars. Carlos Alcaraz, the reigning Wimbledon and French Open champion, earned his spot by overcoming American Taylor Fritz in a four-set semi-final: 6-4, 5-7, 6-3, 7-6(6).
This will be the third Grand Slam final meeting between Alcaraz and Sinner—and the latest installment in what’s quickly becoming tennis' most exciting rivalry.
Alcaraz too hot to handle for Fritz
The 22-year-old Spaniard continues to rewrite the Wimbledon history books. Alcaraz, now riding a 24-match grass-court winning streak, showcased his ever-growing maturity and flair on the SW19 turf.
“I had to stay calm out there,” Alcaraz said post-match. “It’s always tough facing Taylor, especially in these hot conditions, but I’m proud of how I handled the nerves and stayed focused.”
Alcaraz was explosive from the start, breaking in the first game and dropping just four points on serve in the opening set. Fritz capitalized on a brief lapse from Alcaraz to steal the second, but the Spaniard raised his level again in the third and fourth.
A tie-break in the fourth saw Fritz lead 6-4, but Alcaraz saved two set points before clinching the match with a signature forehand winner, punching his ticket to a sixth Grand Slam final and a shot at a third straight Wimbledon crown.
Stars in attendance at Centre Court
Centre Court on Friday wasn’t just lit up by world-class tennis. A-list celebrities and sports legends added to the electric atmosphere:
- Leonardo DiCaprio, Benedict Cumberbatch, and Rami Malek were spotted in the Royal Box.
- Indian cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar, fresh from ringing the bell at Lord’s, joined the tennis elite for what many are calling a changing-of-the-guard moment in men’s tennis.
