Wimbledon 2025: Mirra Andreeva becomes youngest quarterfinalist in nearly two decades

The rising Russian star delivered a clinical, composed, and complete performance on Monday, dispatching No. 10 seed Emma Navarro 6-2, 6-3 in just 75 minutes to book her spot in the Wimbledon 2025 quarter-finals. Her victory marks a milestone moment: Andreeva becomes the youngest woman to reach the Wimbledon quarter-finals since Nicole Vaidisova in 2007, and the first teenager to do so since Victoria Azarenka and Sabine Lisicki in 2009.
Facing Navarro, six years her senior and fresh off eliminating defending champion Barbora Krejcikova, Andreeva wasted no time asserting control. She converted six of seven break points, saved four of six on her own serve, and never allowed the American to find any real momentum.
Perhaps most impressive was Andreeva’s first serve, which averaged over 16 mph faster than Navarro’s and peaked at 121 mph. In the final game of the first set, Navarro fought her way to a break point — but Andreeva answered emphatically:
- 119 mph unreturned serve
- 117 mph unreturned serve
- 121 mph unreturned serve to seal the set
Such power under pressure is rare — and even more astonishing from a teenager.
Now boasting a 7-2 career record at Wimbledon, Andreeva has already proven her growing mastery of grass-court nuances. Her footwork is precise, her anticipation sharp, and her balance between defense and aggression shows maturity far beyond her age.
While her second serve remains a development area — averaging 83.9 mph against Navarro — she’s strategically sound enough to avoid costly double faults and neutralize attacks early in the rally.

Andreeva’s run to the final eight adds to an already impressive season. She now:
- Has six wins over Top 10 opponents in 2025, third only to World No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka and No. 2 Coco Gauff
- Has 36 WTA Tour-level wins this year — again, trailing only Sabalenka and Gauff
- Has reached three Grand Slam quarterfinals in her last six major appearances, including back-to-back showings at Roland Garros and Wimbledon
Next Up: Belinda Bencic
On Wednesday, Andreeva faces Belinda Bencic, who advanced with a gritty 7-6(4), 6-4 victory over No. 18 seed Ekaterina Alexandrova. This clash of youth and experience promises to be another intriguing test for the teenager, who’s steadily built a reputation as a fearless disruptor of seeded favorites.
