Wolves secure FA Cup quarter-final spot with tight win over Brighton

Wolverhampton Wanderers have secured a spot in the quarter-finals of the FA Cup for only the second time in 21 years following a 1-0 victory against Brighton & Hove Albion, thanks to Mario Lemina's early goal at Molineux.
European qualification may be within reach for either team based on their league standings this season, but the FA Cup could offer a more straightforward path, especially with a quarter-final match against Championship opposition awaiting the winner.
Wolves were quick to seize the opportunity, with Lemina capitalizing on Jason Steele's mistake to score within the first minute. Santiago Bueno came close to adding another goal, hinting at a result similar to Brighton's recent heavy defeat to Luton.
However, the game took a different turn, with the visitors gaining control. Despite some chances for both teams, Wolves held onto their narrow lead going into halftime.
After the break, Roberto De Zerbi's team showed more attacking intent, but failed to convert from set-pieces. Meanwhile, Wolves looked dangerous on the counter, with Pedro Neto and Rayan Aït-Nouri coming close to extending their lead.
As expected, Brighton pushed for an equalizer in the final minutes, but José Sá in the Wolves goal was rarely troubled.
The home team's defense put in a strong effort, with unwavering support from fans in the stands helping them secure the win until the final whistle, despite Steele almost scoring an equalizer in the dying moments of the game.
While Coventry is the only obstacle left before a potential trip to Wembley, it might be premature for Wolves supporters to start dreaming of an FA Cup victory like the one in 1960.
However, they can take solace in the fact that they won't experience the same disappointment as Brighton, who will have to wait another year for a chance to lift the trophy for the first time.
