Women's T20 World Cup: Jemimah Rodrigues urges India teammates to move past shocking loss to New Zealand.

In Dubai, India suffered a 58-run setback against New Zealand, with the team, captained by Harmanpreet Kaur, managing to score only 102 runs while chasing a target of 161. Kaur's contribution of 15 runs was the highest score for India in a disappointing innings.

"Today is a match we would prefer to forget, as this is a World Cup," said Rodrigues, who scored 13 runs in the match, during a press conference on Friday. "We must continue to move forward and lift our spirits. We cannot dwell on this game. We need to rally together, and I believe that will demonstrate the resilience of this team."

The match also featured a controversial moment when India’s appeal for a run-out against New Zealand’s Amelia Kerr was dismissed by the umpires. After taking a single off Deepti Sharma's final delivery, Kerr hesitated, prompting the bowler to approach the umpire for her cap. As the New Zealand batters attempted to take a second run, India’s wicketkeeper, Richa Ghosh, retrieved the throw and broke the stumps, believing they had completed a run-out. However, the umpires ruled that the ball was dead after the single was taken, rendering the subsequent actions moot.

"New Zealand were quite certain it was a double run, and Amelia went for it, indicating that the over had not been called dead yet. We all thought we had secured that run-out," Rodrigues explained. "We respect the umpire's decision and accepted it. However, it feels a bit harsh, especially since Amelia herself acknowledged she was out."

As the tournament progresses, both New Zealand and Pakistan have started their campaigns with victories. Meanwhile, Australia is set to begin their title defense against Sri Lanka on Saturday. The top two teams from Group A will advance to the semi-finals, and India will be keen to rebound in their upcoming matches.
