WSL: Jill Roord shines as 10-women City cruises past West Ham.

Jill Roord ran the show to help Manchester City beat West Ham 2-0 on the first day of the Women's Super League season.

With over 70% possession, City dominated the ball from the start and tested West Ham goalkeeper Mackenzie Arnold on several occasions in the first half.

Roord should have done better, but her attempted lob over the Australian goalkeeper went over the crossbar.

Lauren Hemp scored three minutes after the break to put City ahead with the England forward curling a beauty into the top corner, leaving Arnold with no chance before Chloe Kelly then saw her penalty saved by Arnold in the 51st minute.

Only four minutes later, it was 2-0, with Roord making no mistake with his second chance at a debut goal. With a sublime stepover, the former Wolfsburg, Arsenal, and Bayern Munich player cut through the box before slotting the ball into the bottom left corner.

City finished a player down after Leila Ouahabi was sent off for kicking out at Emma Harries, but the Hammers were unable to get back into the game.
