WSL: Khadija Shaw scores twice as Man City thrash Liverpool to go top

Manchester City's striker Khadija Shaw scored twice as they defeated Liverpool 4-1 away on Saturday to take a three-point lead over Chelsea at the top of the Women's Super League.

Lauren Hemp broke the deadlock for City in the 16th minute, Jessica Park added a second six minutes later, and Shaw scored in the 24th minute to leave Liverpool reeling.

Shaw scored again five minutes after halftime, giving the Jamaican international 17 goals in 17 league games this season, before Taylor Hinds scored a stunning consolation goal for the home side.

City now have 46 points after 18 games, three ahead of Chelsea, who play Arsenal in the League Cup final on Sunday and have a game in hand on the leaders. Liverpool remained fourth with 29 points.

Aston Villa drew 2-2 at home against Leicester City, thanks to Rachel Daly's 75th-minute equaliser.

Adriana Leon had put the hosts ahead, but Leicester responded with goals from Yuka Momiki and Samantha Tierney before Daly secured a point for Villa, who remained in seventh place, three points ahead of eighth-placed Leicester.
