WSL: Mead on target as Arsenal defeat Everton to move up to second

Arsenal defeated Everton 2-1 at home on Saturday as the Women's Super League resumed after the winter break, with England international Beth Mead scoring the winning goal three minutes into first-half stoppage time.

Caitlin Foord gave Arsenal the lead in the ninth minute, but Everton striker Katja Snoeijs equalised 15 minutes later, setting the scene for Mead to head the winner just before halftime.

Arsenal's win brings them level on 25 points with league leaders and reigning champions Chelsea, who have played one fewer game than their London rivals.

Manchester City, who are third and three points behind the top two, host Liverpool on Sunday, while West Ham United face Tottenham Hotspur and Brighton & Hove Albion face bottom-place Bristol City.
