WTA roundup: Danielle Collins wins Charleston Open behind 13th win in a row

Danielle Collins is showing no signs of slowing down as she prepares to retire later this season, winning her second straight tournament on Sunday at the Credit One Charleston Open in South Carolina.

Collins defeated fourth-seeded Russian Daria Kasatkina 6-2, 6-1 on clay in 77 minutes, winning her 13th consecutive match after winning the hard-court Miami Open the week before.

Serena Williams, a fellow American, was the last player to win both Miami and Charleston in the same year in 2013, and she did so in 2008.

Collins' 13-match win streak is her career best, surpassing her 12-match run in 2021, which included victories in Palermo, Italy, and San Jose, California.

Collins began February at No. 71 in the world rankings and is expected to reach the top 15 by Monday. The 2022 Australian Open runner-up outperformed No. 11 Kasatkina in terms of winners (37-10), first serve percentage (20 of 21), and break point saves.

Camila Osorio, a home-country favourite, completed an impressive run by defeating No. 1 seed Marie Bouzkova of the Czech Republic 6-3, 7-6 (5) in front of a partisan crowd to win her second title in Bogota.

Osorio, who won her first WTA Tour title in Bogota in 2021, was seeded sixth, ranked 85th in the world, and hadn't won consecutive matches this season. On her way to the championship, the Colombian dropped only one set.

In the quarterfinals in Bogota, Osorio ended the 14-match winning streak of two-time defending champion and second-seeded Tatjana Maria.

Osorio made 50 percent (4 of 8) of her break-point attempts, compared to 33.3 percent (3 of 9) for Bouzkova. She also had a 26-16 advantage in winners.
