WTA roundup: France's Clara Burel and Diane Parry fall in Tunisia

Clara Burel, the second seed from France, and third-seeded Diane Parry, also from France, were the latest players to experience an upset, as they were eliminated in the second round of the Jasmin Open Tunisia on Wednesday in Monastir.
This follows the earlier exits of fourth-seeded Nadia Podoroska and fifth-seeded Jaqueline Cristian in the first round. Rebecca Sramkova from Slovakia triumphed over Burel with a score of 7-6(4), 7-5, while Ukrainian qualifier Yuliia Starodubtseva defeated Parry 6-4, 6-4.
Starodubtseva demonstrated resilience by saving six break points and ultimately converting her fourth match point during a challenging nine-deuce final game, marking her first victory against a Top 60 opponent. Throughout the match, she successfully defended against 12 of 13 break points, compared to Parry's three out of six, despite Parry serving six aces.
In another match, Spain's Sara Sorribes Tormo came from behind to defeat Croatia's Jana Fett with scores of 5-7, 6-3, 6-4, securing her place in the quarterfinals for the second time in 2024. British qualifier Sonay Kartal, currently ranked No. 151 in the world and responsible for eliminating Romania's Cristian, also advanced by defeating Japan's Mai Hontama 6-2, 6-2 in just 78 minutes.
At the Guadalajara Open Akron, Australian qualifier Olivia Gadecki achieved a remarkable upset by defeating second-seeded Danielle Collins of the United States 6-3, 6-3, thereby advancing to the quarterfinals of the WTA 500 tournament in Guadalajara, Mexico.
Ranked 152nd globally, Gadecki broke Collins' serve three times in succession late in the first set. In the second set, she secured a crucial break to lead 4-2 and successfully saved a break point in the subsequent game before sealing her victory.
Kamilla Rakhimova progressed to the quarterfinals after third-seeded Victoria Azarenka retired while trailing 6-2, 3-0 in the second set. Azarenka, ranked No. 19 in the world, struggled with five double faults and failed to convert any of her five break-point opportunities, while Rakhimova capitalized on all four of her chances without committing a double fault.
Colombia's Camila Osorio pulled out a 7-6(5), 6-7(2), 7-5 win over Russia's Veronika Kudermetova, and Italy's Martina Trevisan beat Mexico's Renata Zarazua 6-4, 6-3.
