WTA roundup: Jelena Ostapenko stuns Iga Swiatek again to reach Stuttgart semifinals at Porsche Tennis Grand Prix

Latvia's Jelena Ostapenko continued her perfect run against Poland’s Iga Swiatek with a 6-3, 3-6, 6-2 victory in the quarterfinals of the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix on Saturday in Stuttgart, Germany. The unseeded Ostapenko remains unbeaten in six career meetings with the world No. 2 and five-time Grand Slam champion.
Ostapenko advances to Sunday’s first semifinal, where she will take on fellow unseeded player Ekaterina Alexandrova. The Russian was dominant in her quarterfinal matchup, needing just 81 minutes to dispatch third-seeded Jessica Pegula 6-0, 6-4.
Top seed Aryna Sabalenka of Belarus impressed in her tournament opener, defeating her former doubles partner Elise Mertens of Belgium 6-4, 6-1. Sabalenka is set to meet Italy’s fifth-seeded Jasmine Paolini in the other semifinal. Paolini reached the final four with a 6-4, 6-3 win over fourth seed Coco Gauff.

In Rouen, France, Elina Svitolina demonstrated her class with a commanding 6-2, 6-0 semifinal win over Elena-Gabriela Ruse of Romania. The top-seeded Ukrainian needed only 61 minutes to secure the victory, denying Ruse a single game point in the first set.
Svitolina, who owns 17 WTA titles, will contest Sunday’s final against third-seeded Olga Danilovic of Serbia. Danilovic reached the title match with a solid 6-4, 6-4 win over Suzan Lamens of the Netherlands. The final will mark the first-ever meeting between the 30-year-old Svitolina and 24-year-old Danilovic.
