WTA roundup: No.5 seed Marta Kostyuk rolls in Seoul, Siniakova progresses in Thailand

The fifth seed, Marta Kostyuk (22) from Ukraine, commenced her campaign at the Korea Open with a decisive 6-3, 6-1 victory against Arantxa Rus of the Netherlands on Monday in Seoul.
Despite committing 10 double faults, Kostyuk successfully converted six out of 14 break points during the 78-minute match. In the second round of the WTA 500 event, she is set to face Britain's Heather Watson, who triumphed over China's Jia-Jing Lu with a score of 6-4, 6-4.
In other matches, seventh seed Ekaterina Alexandrova from Russia narrowly defeated Varvara Lepchenko with a score of 7-5, 3-6, 6-0, while eighth seed Yue Yuan of China came back to win against Romania's Elena-Gabriela Ruse, finishing 4-6, 6-2, 6-2. Additionally, Canada's Carol Zhao and Russia's Veronika Kudermetova also progressed to the next round.
At the Thailand Open, second seed Katerina Siniakova from the Czech Republic secured a first-round victory against Australia's Arina Rodionova, winning 7-5, 6-1 in Hua Hin, Thailand.
Siniakova capitalized on five of six break points and overcame a 4-3 deficit in the first set, setting up a second-round match against either Nadia Podoroska from Argentina or Ksenia Laskutova from Russia.
Fifth seed Xiyu Wang achieved a 7-5, 6-1 victory over Switzerland's Viktorija Golubic, while sixth seed Katie Volynets triumphed over Denmark's Clara Tauson with a score of 7-6 (2), 4-6, 6-3.
Eighth-seeded Varvara Gracheva from France also advanced with a convincing 6-1, 6-4 win against Australia's Taylah Preston. Slovenia's Tamara Zidansek, Germany's Laura Siegemund, and Thailand's Lanlana Tararudee also moved forward in the tournament.
