WTA roundup: Rybakina rallies back to defeat Collins in Abu Dhabi

Elena Rybakina, the top seed, advanced to the quarterfinals of the Mubadala Abu Dhabi Open on Thursday in the United Arab Emirates by rallying to defeat Danielle Collins 4-6, 6-3, 6-3.

The Kazakhstani star improved to 3-1 against Collins with the two-hour, 17-minute victory. Rybakina trailed 3-2 in the second set and 2-1 in the decider before rallying to defeat Collins.

In the quarter-finals, she will face Spain's Cristina Busca, who defeated Great Britain's Heather Watson 7-6 (1), 7-5.

Eight-seed Liudmila Samsonova of Russia defeated Ukraine's Anhelina Kalinina 6-1, 6-3 to advance to the quarterfinals against Czech Republic's Barbora Krejcikova, seeded fourth. Krejcikova led 6-2, 1-0, when Spain's Sara Sorribes Tomo was forced to retire.

Transylvania Open

Sara Errani of Italy advanced to the quarterfinals in Cluj-Napoca, Romania, defeating No. 2 seed Tatjana Maria of Germany 6-0, 6-1.

Errani saved the only break point she faced and converted five of her seven break attempts in the 61-minute match. Next up is Czech Republic's Karolina Pliskova, who defeated Colombia's Camila Osorio 6-2, 6-1.

Two other seeds fell: Britain's Harriet Dart defeated No. 5 Elisabetta Cocciaretto of Italy 5-7, 7-5, 6-3, and Latvia's Anastasija Sevastova defeated No. 6 Elina Avanesyan of Russia, who retired trailing 6-2, 6-7 (5), 2-0. Romanian Jaqueline Cristian defeated Denmark's Clara Tauson 6-4, 6-0.
