WTA roundup: Swiatek into semis, Vondrousova knocks out Sabalenka

No. 1 seed Iga Swiatek of Poland defeated Great Britain's Emma Raducanu 7-6 (2), 6-3 on Friday to advance to the semifinals of the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix in Stuttgart, Germany.

Swiatek, the two-time defending champion, extended her winning streak to ten matches in Stuttgart by defeating the 2021 U.S. Open champion in two hours and three minutes. Swiatek now leads Raducanu 3-0 in career meetings.

Swiatek will face fourth-seeded Elena Rybakina of Kazakhstan in the semifinals, following her 6-3, 5-7, 6-3 victory over Italian Jasmine Paolini.

Sixth-seeded Marketa Vondrousouva of the Czech Republic recovered from a first-set loss to defeat second-seeded Aryna Sabalenka of Belarus 3-6, 6-3, 7-5. Vondrousova won the match in just over two hours and will face Marta Kostyuk of Ukraine, who recovered from a slow start to defeat third-seeded Coco Gauff 3-6, 6-4, 7-6 (6).

Carolina Garcia, the second seed from France, defeated Elena-Gabriela Ruse of Romania 6-3, 6-4 to advance to the semifinals in Rouen.

Garcia hit eight aces and took advantage of three double faults to win the match in 89 minutes. She will next face sixth-seeded Sloane Stephens, who defeated No. 4 seed Yue Yuan of China 6-2, 6-2.

Anhelina Kalinina of Ukraine won 58.3 percent of her first-serve points and defeated fifth-seeded Russian Mirra Andreeva 6-4, 7-5 in one hour and 36 minutes. Kalinina will face Magda Linette of Poland, who defeated Arantza Rus of the Netherlands 7-6 (9), 6-1.
