WTA Roundup: Unseeded Ito shocks Cocciaretto at Japan Open, while Badosa progresses in Ningbo

Aoi Ito, aged 20 and currently ranked No. 188 globally, delighted her supporters in Japan on Wednesday at the Japan Open by defeating the eighth-seeded Elisabetta Cocciaretto, 23, from Italy, with a score of 6-4, 6-3 in Osaka.
This victory marked Ito's first win against a Top 50 player, allowing her to progress to her inaugural WTA Tour quarterfinal. She achieved this by converting five out of nine break points, resulting in a 56 percent success rate in her return games.
Other players who secured victories on Wednesday included Denmark's Clara Tauson, Germany's Eva Lys, Suzan Lamens from the Netherlands, and Australia's Kimberly Birrell.
At the Ningbo Open, fifth-seeded Daria Kasatkina from Russia made a comeback after losing the first set, ultimately winning against Czech player Katerina Siniakova with scores of 1-6, 6-3, 6-2 to advance to the quarterfinals in China.
The match, which lasted just over two hours, did not showcase exceptional serving from either competitor, with Kasatkina winning 56 percent of her service points compared to Siniakova's 52 percent. Both players had opportunities to break serve, with Kasatkina converting six of her 14 chances and Siniakova five of her 15.
Spain's eighth-seeded Paula Badosa rallied to overcome China's Wang Xiyu with a score of 6-7, 6-1, 6-2. Additionally, Russia's Mirra Andreeva triumphed over Germany's Tamara Korpatsch with a score of 6-0, 6-4, while Yulia Putintseva from Kazakhstan defeated Ella Seidel of Germany 6-4, 6-4 to secure her place in the quarterfinals.
In the only first-round match of the day, Czech player Karolina Muchova prevailed against Australia's Olivia Gadecki with a score of 6-3, 7-5.
