Young Boys 0-1 Inter Milan: Thuram nets late winner to break hosts' hearts

Inter Milan's away winless streak in the UEFA Champions League (UCL) was halted at three games, as they secured a 1-0 victory against BSC Young Boys at the Stadion Wankdorf in Bern, thanks to a late goal from Marcus Thuram.
The home side performed admirably in the first half, with Jaouen Hadjam forcing a notable save from Yann Sommer within the first 20 minutes, his powerful shot taking a significant deflection. Sommer was also called into action to thwart two headers from the back post, first from Alan Virginius and then from Lukasz Lakomy, both of which threatened to find the net.
Inter's most promising opportunity came to centre-back Yann Bisseck, who made a determined run into the penalty area following a clever flick from Mehdi Taremi. However, David von Ballmoos reacted swiftly to deny him, ensuring the score remained level at half-time.
Despite Young Boys' strong start, they nearly conceded a penalty early in the second half when Denzel Dumfries was fouled by Hadjam, who was fortunate to escape a second yellow card after already being cautioned.
Marko Arnautovic took the penalty but saw his weak shot saved by von Ballmoos, who then made an impressive stop to deny Dumfries on the rebound.
The Austrian forward nearly faced consequences for his missed opportunity just before the hour mark, as Joel Monteiro struck the post after advancing to the edge of the box.
Inter continued to press for a decisive goal and found it in stoppage time, when Marcus Thuram, one of the substitutes brought on to make an impact, converted Federico Dimarco’s cross, leaving Young Boys devastated.
As a result, BSC Young Boys lost their unbeaten home record against Italian teams in the UCL and remain without points in this year's competition, while Inter extended their winning streak across all competitions to five matches.
