Yuki Tsunoda set to replace Liam Lawson at Red Bull for Japanese Grand Prix

Japanese driver Yuki Tsunoda will join Max Verstappen at Red Bull Racing for the upcoming Japanese Grand Prix, replacing Liam Lawson. The decision marks a home-race promotion for Tsunoda, who has impressed with solid performances for Red Bull’s junior team, RB, in the first two races of the 2025 F1 season.
Lawson’s Struggles Lead to Change
Liam Lawson, who was drafted in to replace Sergio Perez during the off-season, has had a difficult start to his full-time Red Bull seat. The 23-year-old Kiwi has been eliminated in Q1 of all three races so far and remains pointless in the standings. Meanwhile, Verstappen sits second in the drivers' championship with 36 points, trailing McLaren’s Lando Norris by eight points.
