Zverev blasts past Muller to reach U.S. Open third round

Alexander Zverev of Germany, aged 27, advanced to the third round of the US Open on Wednesday, defeating Alexandre Muller, also 27, with a score of 6-4, 7-6(5), 6-1 on the scorching court of Louis Armstrong Stadium.
The fourth seed, known for his powerful serve, delivered 15 aces and showcased his skill with drop shots at the net, maintaining his aspirations for a first major title following his runner-up finish at Roland Garros.
Zverev's performance proved overwhelming for Muller, currently ranked 77th in the world, who struggled with 41 unforced errors and contended with a noticeable leg injury amid the oppressive heat and humidity at Flushing Meadows.
After a somewhat inconsistent showing in the first round, Zverev started strong, breaking Muller's serve in the opening game and ultimately securing the first set in a competitive exchange.
Muller, clutching his upper right leg, took an extended medical timeout between sets but returned determined to compete.
The tenacious French player came within two points of winning the second set; however, Zverev rallied to win the last five points of the tiebreak, finishing with a precise forehand down the line.
Zverev dominated the third set, concluding the match with another ace.
